In a conversation with our colleague The Times of India, celebrity nutritionist Sandhya Gugnani has shared food and diet tips for Co-vid patients based on a recent research. Along with this, he has told what should the Co-vid patient eat in his diet and what should be avoided.


Calories required in our body

  1. Less obese: 5-30 kcal / according to body weight
  2. Overweight or obesity - 25-30kcal / kg IBW or adjusted BW
  3. Low weight - 25-35kcal / kg adjusted BW
  4. Protein required: 1-1.5g per actual body weight
  5. Fat requirement: 25-30 percent of total calories

 

 Multivitamin- 


 

  •  Vitamin-D: 10-1000 mcg / day
  •  Vitamin-E: 134-800 mg
  •  Zinc: 30-220 mg / day
  •  Vitamin C: 200 mg to 3 g 
 
Nutritional Guidelines for COVID Patients 
 

  • Covid patients must avoid eating leftover or stale food.
  • Eat a balanced diet rich in carbohydrate, fat and protein.
  • According to the patient's body, try to give oral nutrition supplements and antioxidants.
  • In corona it is recommended to do regular physical activity and some breathing exercises. 
 
 
Covid Diet: What to Eat and What Not?
  • The body feels very weak and tired due to corona, so the patient should consume foods that increase muscle strength and increase energy levels. Experts say that whole grains such as ragi oats contain good amounts of carbohydrates. It is very important for long term health.
  • Eating chicken, fish, eggs, cheese, soy, nuts and seeds brings strength in the body. These days cooking in walnuts, almonds, olive oil and mustard oil will improve immunity. Covid patient should drink turmeric milk once a day. 


Include fruits and vegetables
 
 
          This keeps the energy level in the body. If corona is positive, eating fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and miracles will be beneficial. If you want, you can have dark chocolate with 70 percent cocoa. Covid patients have poor mouth taste or have difficulty swallowing food, such people are suggested to eat soft food in a short period of time.
 

What should be the diet chart of Covid patients?

Breakfast-     Veg Poha, Chila, Namkeen Upma, Namkeen Vegetable Sevai, Idli plus two egg white, turmeric milk and ginger powder.

Lunch-      multigrain grain flor bread, rice, vegetable casserole, khichdi, lentils or green vegetable, carrot or cucumber yogurt salad.

Evening breakfast-     ginger tea, veg, chicken or immunity soup or sprouts chaat. The patient should eat ginger tea and veg khichdi during diarrhea.

 What to do to relieve fatigue after Covid:-

         Even after the covid is corrected, the patient will feel tired for several days. To overcome this, it is good to eat energy-enhancing foods like banana, apple, orange. Be sure to include a salad or sweet potato. Drinking warm water with organic honey and lime will help a lot to relieve fatigue.
